STEM- Drones: "THE SPRING PROJECT".

The Project“THE SPRING PROJECT.” An advanced video/drone Skills/ Filmora X Editing Project.

Premise: It is SPRING! Time to celebrate by completing a SPRING VIDEO! Follow the instructions below for this project that will help to demonstrate both your DRONE FLYING and your VIDEO EDITING skills!

The Model: We reviewed a SPRING VIDEO called "Manchester Spring" at the start of this project..

The Product: You will be creating a video that celebrates SPRING and that has all of the following components:

  • A fitting TITLE that is a little flashy and interesting and fits your THEME for your video! Do something beyond the standard WHITE ARIAL FONT in the middle of the screen title. Make your title fit with the THEME of "COLORADO SPRING"!
  • Fitting MUSIC. Your music should exemplify SPRING (This means cheerful, upbeat, happy, light music. No Death Metal.)!
  • Your transitions and edits should be interesting and captivating and should fit with the music!
  • Your VIDEO CLIPS:
    • You are required to include AT LEAST FIVE DIFFERENT DRONE VIDEO SHOTS that demonstrate Spring. These need to include the following ADVANCED VIDEO SHOTS-
      • AT LEAST ONE TIMELAPSE CLIP that shows SPRING. This needs to be completed using a DRONE and should be at least 5-10 seconds worth of footage in your final project. Simply slowing down your footage is not good enough, please do actual timelapse.
      • AT LEAST ONE PULLBACK SHOT. This should show your drone moving BACKWARDS through obstacles, then rising to show a wider scene. This DOES NOT have to be dangerous! I will accept any pullback shot that fits the rules, as long as you fly backwards to show scenery. This also needs to be a DRONE SHOT, not a phone shot. I recommend a pullback through newly budding trees, branches, spring flowers, etc..
      • AT LEAST ONE POINT OF INTEREST SHOT- This needs to be a DRONE SHOT, as well. Circle a SPRING OBJECT. Trees would be OK. Spring activities would be better.
      • AT LEAST TWO DIFFERENT KILLER DRONE IDEA SHOTS: The list includes LOW AND FAST SHOTS, LINES SHOTS, RIGHT TO LEFT REVEAL SHOTS, HIGH CIRCLE SHOTS or STRAIGHT DOWN SHOTS.
    • You are required to include DIFFERENT GROUND LEVEL VIDEO SHOTS to make up the rest of the clips in your video. These should be creative and interesting and should show SPRING (such as flowers, animals, activities, etc.). These should also MOVE (just as if they were taken by a drone, but closeup!) Think reveal shots, rising shots, circle shots, etc. You can take these video clips with your phone, with an OSMO, with your video camera, etc.
  • It is expected and almost required that you gather some of this footage away from the campus on your own time.
  • Include CLOSING CREDITS which attribute your music, etc.

Grading:  You will be graded on your ability to incorporate different FILMORA AND VIDEO FLIGHT techniques, properly include all of the required elements and create an interesting and quality SPRING video. This will be a 100 point project. Here is the RUBRIC for this project:
