STEM- Drones: "THE NEIGHBORHOOD" INDEPENDENT PROJECT

The Project“The Neighborhood”, an intermediate drone videography/photography project.

Premise: We have been working on our Mavic Airs and Resolve for a few months now and it is time to put those skills to create a polished videography/photography project.

The Product: You will be creating a 30 second video or a 20 photo album that shows YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD by air from your drone.

Should you choose to create a video, your video should include the following:

  • 10-15 video clips. These should be REVEAL clips, wherever possible, that slowly reveal an object in your field of view.
  • You should use video clips from YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD where you live. I am willing to interpret this to be anything within a couple of miles of your home. For this, you will need to sign out a drone for a weekend.
  • Your video clips need to be no more than 5-7 seconds in length.
  • Please include video shots in which you TURN your video, using our SECRET SETTINGS which slow the initial movement of the drone when turning on the control sticks.
  • Use of proper transitions in your video from clip to clip.
  • Use of Royalty Free music in your video. I recommend using:
  • https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/music (this is blocked on the school network, but you COULD access this great site on your phone and transfer the files from there...)

  • Proper ATTRIBUTION of any music used in your credits
  • Inclusion of ADVANCED opening credits (This needs to be more than the standard print title that we have all been using), which will include the name of your video and a "by NAME." text line.
  • Inclusion of closing credits, which will include a listing of any people that helped with the creation of your film.

Should you choose to create a photography portfolio, your portfolio should include the following:

  • At least 20 photographs that show interesting or iconic objects and scenes from your neighborhood.
  • Please include AT LEAST ONE of each of the following: VERTICAL PANORAMA, HORIZONTAL PANORAMA, TILT SHIFT PHOTOGRAPH.
  • Please include at least ONE PHOTOGRAPH of a SUNRISE or SUNSET from your neighborhood. Please remember the 107 rules regarding flying at times near sunrise and sunset!
  • Your photographs need to be taken in RAW AEB BRACKETED format and need to be edited to be their very best.

Your Flight Plans: Part of being a good videographer, especially when using drones, is the pre-planning, where you scout out your site, plan your shot, prepare for a good mission and then execute your clip. Please make sure that you complete this when working on your project!

Saving and Submitting: Please save your FINAL PRODUCT to a folder in your project folder. Call this folder NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT.

Grading:  This will be a 100 point graded assignment, due on March 6th, 2020.
